Forscher von Global Fishing Watch sp\u00fcren mithilfe von KI und Satellitendaten getarnte Schiffe auf<\/em><\/h2>\n

Der seit Langem gro\u00dfindustriell organisierte Fischfang findet zu gro\u00dfen Teilen in einer Grauzone statt. Die Fabrikschiffe melden ihre Positionen auf den Weltmeeren meist nicht an. Entsprechend wenig kontrollierbar ist, was und wie viel sie fangen. Durch den Einsatz von Satellitendaten und K\u00fcnstlicher Intelligenz (KI) haben Forscher von Global Fishing Watch<\/a>* das detaillierteste Bild der weltweiten Fischereiaktivit\u00e4ten erstellt. Danach halten 75 Prozent der Fabrikschiffe ihre Routen geheim. Global Fishing Watch ist einer Organisation, gegr\u00fcndet unter anderem von Google, die sich f\u00fcr eine bessere Kontrolle der Ozeane durch mehr Transparenz der menschlichen Aktivit\u00e4ten auf See einsetzt.<\/p>\n

Schiffe ohne Positionsmeldungen<\/strong><\/p>\n

Durch die Verwendung von Satellitendaten der Copernicus-Sentinel-1-Mission aus f\u00fcnf Jahren und einiger optischer Daten der Copernicus-Sentinel-2-Mission zusammen mit GPS-Infos haben die Forscher Schiffe identifiziert, die ihre Position nicht gemeldet hatten. Mithilfe von maschinellem Lernen konnten die Forscher ermitteln, welche der Schiffe Fischfang betrieben, viele auch in Meeresschutzgebieten. Zudem entdeckten sie eine hohe Konzentration von Schiffen in Gew\u00e4ssern vieler L\u00e4nder, in denen die \u00f6ffentlichen \u00dcberwachungssysteme zuvor wenig bis gar keine Schiffsaktivit\u00e4t registriert hatten.<\/p>\n

\u201eAn Land haben wir detaillierte Karten von fast jeder Stra\u00dfe und jedem Geb\u00e4ude auf unserem Planeten\u00bb, so David Kroodsma, Direktor f\u00fcr Forschung und Innovation bei Global Fishing Watch. \u201eIm Gegensatz dazu bleibt das Geschehen auf unseren Ozeanen der \u00d6ffentlichkeit weitgehend verborgen. Unsere Studie hilft, die blinden Flecken zu beseitigen und wirft ein Licht auf das Ausma\u00df und die Intensit\u00e4t der menschlichen Aktivit\u00e4ten auf See.\u00bb<\/p>\n

Illegale Aktivit\u00e4ten vor allem in Asien<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201eVon zehn ansonsten unsichtbaren Fischereifahrzeugen, die wir auf dem Wasser entdeckt haben, waren sieben in asiatischen Gew\u00e4ssern unterwegs und nur eins in Europa. Damit haben wir das umfassendste \u00f6ffentliche Bild der weltweiten industriellen Fischerei geschaffen, das es gibt\u00bb, sagt Jennifer Raynor von der University of Wisconsin-Madison<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Von den Ergebnissen der Studie \u00fcberrascht zeigt sich Nuno Miranda, Leiter der Copernicus-Sentinel-1-Mission der Europ\u00e4ischen Raumfahrtorganisation<\/a>. \u201eIch glaube nicht, dass irgendjemand erwartet hat, dass 75 Prozent der Schiffe auf See ihre Position nicht \u00fcbermitteln.\u00bb Das habe nicht nur Auswirkungen auf die Aufsp\u00fcrung von Schiffen, die m\u00f6glicherweise illegal fischen, sondern die Ergebnisse w\u00fcrden auch dazu beitragen, mehr \u00fcber die Treibhausgasemissionen auf See zu erfahren.<\/p>\n
